  • Common aims: a strategy to support service user involvement in social work education (SCIE)
The Social Care Institute for Excellence has published a report that focuses on how service user and carer organisations could take the lead in building their capacity for involvement in the undergraduate and postgraduate social work degrees.Scotland takes a lead with the development of Scottish Voices and future work by the group will support the capacity building of service user and carer groups and networks throughout Scotland to positively influence social work/care learning.
  • Reward and Recognition. The principles and practice of service user payment and reimbursement in health and social care. A guide for service providers, service users and carers (Department of Health)
This guide sets out the principles and practice for paying and reimbursing service users and volunteers for their involvement in service improvement activities in health and social care. It recognises that people who usually contribute are those who use services the most. By definition these people are likely to be ill, have disabilities or are carers. It is also likely that a proportion of service users will have low incomes, and therefore be in receipt of incapacity or income related benefits. For these people remuneration and reimbursement is not straightforward.
This guide helps to navigate through the minefield of different issues associated with payments to service users and carers and will form the basis of a workshop later in the year hosted by Scottish Voices and other interested parties. Watch out for more information here.
