Professor Sandy Cameron, CBE
Chair of the Parole Board, Scotland.

Sandy Cameron is the Chairman of the Parole Board for Scotland. Prior to retirement, Sandy held the position of Executive Director of Social Work Resources in South Lanarkshire Council, one of the largest local authorities to emerge from the former Strathclyde Regional Council following re-organisation.

After graduation from the Universities of Strathclyde and Aberdeen, Sandy began his career with Social Work in the early 70s, as a social worker in Clackmannanshire and moved to Central Regional Council to focus on research and fieldwork in 1975.

In 1987, Sandy was appointed Director of Social Work in Borders Region where he remained until being appointed to the new South Lanarkshire Council in 1995.

Sandy is a past Secretary and President of ADSW, the Association of Directors of Social Work, and has been involved closely with ADSW through some of the most challenging times for social work in Scotland.

With a particular interest in the field of drugs misuse, Sandy has been appointed Chair to the Lanarkshire Alcohol & Drugs Action Team (ADAT) and is a past Chair of the Association of Drug Action Team. His expertise in this area has also led to his membership of the Scottish Advisory Committee on the Misuse of Drugs and the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. Following retirement he chaired the stocktake of ADATs for the Scottish Executive. Sandy's interests also include training - he was a Council Member of CCETSW, the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work chairing its Scottish Committee- and child protection issues.

He was Chair of the Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care Management Committee from its inception until 2007 having previously chaired the Centre for Residential Child Care. He is a Director of Carevisions an independent sector provider of residential care for young people.

He is a member of the National Advisory Body on Offender Management and the National Social Work Forum. He is the chair of the Performance Improvement workstream of Changing Lives. He is a Non Executive Director of the State Hospitals Board for Scotland.

He was appointed CBE in the Birthday Honours List in 2000, is a Visiting Professor at Strathclyde University and a Fellow of the British American Project.
